Conditions are becoming favourable for advance of southwest  monsoon over South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during next 2 - 3 days.

The Cyclonic Storm (MAHASEN) over southeast Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards and lay centered at 1730 hrs IST of yesterday, the 12th May 2013, centered within half a degree of Lat.10.5 deg N and Long 87.0 deg E about 650 Kms westnorthwest of Car Nicobar, 650 Kms eastnortheast of Trincomalee and 800 Kms southeast of Chennai. It moved northwestwards and now lies at 0300 UTC of today the, 13th May 2013 within half a deg of Lat.11.8 deg N and Long 86.4 deg E, about 760 kms northwest of Car Nicobar, 670 kms northeast of Trincomalee and 690 kms southeast of Chennai. It would move north-northwestwards during next 12 hours and recurve thereafter northeastwards towards Bangla Desh-Myanmar coasts.

The western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto mid tropospheric levels over Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood now lies over eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. System would move eastnortheastwards. The trough in mid and upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis now at 5.8 kms a.s.l. now runs roughly along Long. 80 deg E to the north of Lat. 30 deg N. System would move eastnortheastwards. The cyclonic circulation extending upto 3.1 kms a.s.l. over Haryana and neighbourhood has become less marked. The cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 Kms a.s.l. over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and neighbourhood has become less marked. The cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 kms a.s.l. over east Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over Bihar and neighbourhood. The trough/wind discontinuity in the lower levels now runs from the above cyclonic circulation to south Tamil Nadu persists across east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and interior Andhra Pradesh.
