"YSR had a vision for poor students": Vijayamma - Sakshi Post

Dr. YSR had a vision for the poor. One of the pioneering schemes he had launched was the fee reimbursement scheme for poor students, with an intention to recognize merit, said YSR Congress party Honorary President, Y.S.Vijayamma  at her deeksha today.

While YSR envisioned a society that opened up opportunities of higher education to the deprived, the present government treated fee reimbursement as a burden on the exchequer and was in fact acting as if it was paying from its own pocket, she lamented. Vijayamma demanded that the fees of every eligible student be reimbursed.

While addressing a massive gathering at the Indira Park, Vijayamma  condemned attitude of the state government for trying to do away with the fee reimbursement scheme, which was meant to bridge the yawning gulf between poor students and those could afford higher education.

Referring to the government’s plans to cap on the fee reimbursement scheme, she lamented that it would affect the education of economically poorer students. She also criticized government saying that YSR had implemented fees reimbursement scheme irrespective of caste and creed.
"Many sections of the people were able to afford education during his regime. However, the present government considers the scheme as a burden", she lamented.

She criticised the Congress for derailing the objectives of a plan initiated by former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and lakhs of students were benefited by Fees Reimbursement scheme. Demanding that the government should bear the entire fee of poor students, she has also said that she is not understanding why the government is feeling it as burden. When the government is collecting huge amount of money from the public as tax but it is going back to spend money on students studies.
She also recalled Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy's deeksha on fees reimbursement.
