Prakasam Barrage Gates Open to Release Flood Water

Vijayawada: Incessant rains lashing Andhra Pradesh over the last one week has created a flood-like situation in many parts of the state. While Srikakulam has been flooded following heavy rains, several rivers in AP are in spate. Authorities were forced to open the Prakasam barrage gates to release flood waters to lower areas and into the sea.

Water from the Krishna river too has been flowing down towards Prakasam barrage. Some 17,000 cusecs of water is said to have been accumulated in the barrage over the last few days.

With Kharif season having just started, the authorities decided to release 4,000 cusecs into the sea and 3,000 cusecs to lower areas.
