Train mows down 10 passengers jumped on track from another train

Vizianagaram: In a tragic incident, ten passengers were killed after they jumped out of a running train and were run over by another train in the adjacent track on Saturday at Gotlam 3 KM from Vizianagaram.

According to sources, the passengers in Bokaro express were suddenly in panic with the rumours that the bogies were caught in fire. Since emitting smoke was found in S1 and S2 bogies, some passengers jumped out of the train.

A passenger train from Vijayawada, which was speeding on the next track, mowed down the jumped passengers, resulting in 10 casualties on spot and some were severely injured. Passengers, majorly women and children were crushed under the wheels. Since bodies lay mangled on the rail track, the number of casualties was not known exactly. The incident occurred near Gotlam village, 3 KM from Vizianagaram, the district head quarters.
