Surrogate Babies Not To Be Handed Over To Commissioned Parents

Hyderabad: In a major move after ordering the authorities in Telangana to take care of surrogate mothers, the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday ordered the medical and health department in the state not to handover the babies born through surrogacy to the commissioned parents without the permission of the court.

A two-judge bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T. Rajani, that was dealing with the case based on a letter by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait on news published in the media. On June 19, 2017 the city police raided Sai Kiran Hospital and Kiran Infertility Center at Banjara Hills for carrying surrogacy procedures. Justice Suresh Kumar has written a letter to the Chief Justice regarding the news.

While directing the authorities for taking care of new born surrogate babies, the bench also said that it will decide the issue of custody of the children later.

The case is adjourned for a week.
