'Stayed on as CM because Sonia wanted me to'

'Stayed on as CM because Sonia wanted me to' - Sakshi Post

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who tendered his resignation on Wednesday, said that he continued so long as the CM because Congress chief Sonia Gandhi asked him to do so.

“The state was divided only to get votes in the next general elections. People from both the regions lived together for 58 years. Now, they were separated.  I am seriously opposing the bifurcation of the state”, said Kiran.

He added that the bifurcation was not done in a proper way.

“Even the cabinet ministers were not given a chance to read the note on the issue. I said a long ago that I would quit politics if the state of Telangana would be a reality”, said Kiran.

Kiran said that the way the issue ran in the Parliament was also not proper.

“The people of the country has the right to know why the live broadcasting of the discussion was stopped at the key moment”, said Kiran.

“The men in power at the centre have made a mockery of democracy," said the outgoing chief minister.

However, he thanked the party for giving him the post of chief minister.

“Immediately after the CWC decision on the Telangana, I offered to quit. But, Sonia Gandhi had asked to me to continue in the post then”, explained Kiran.
