Siddipet Municipal polls on April 6 and Counting on April 11 - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The State Election Commission on Sunday released the schedule for Siddipet Municipal elections and a notification in this regard will be issued on Monday.

Nominations for the elections can be filed from March 21 to 23 and scrutiny of those nominations will be held on March 24 and withdrawal will be permitted on March 25. Polling for 34 wards will be held on April 6 followed by counting on April 11.

The Siddipet municipal elections are being held after a gap of 11 years. It may be recalled that the Panchayat Raj Department issued orders on October 14, 2004, merging six villages (Prashant Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Narsapur, Gadicharlapaly, Imambad and Rangadhampally) into Siddipet Municipality. Residents of these six villages petitioned the High Court questioning their merger in the Municipality arguing that the Department had taken the decision unilaterally without considering the opinion of the villagers. The Court ruled a stay order on proceedings of elections for the Municipal body until the referendum is taken.

After 11 long years, the High Court suspended its stay order on Friday and struck off the petitions filed against the merger. This paved the way for the conduct of the civic polls.
