Shankar Rao goes missing to escape arrest

Even as the city police have spread a dragnet, former minister P Shankar Rao has gone missing since morning. As the Andhra Pradesh High Court has vacated the stay paving the way for the arrest of the former minister and Cantonment MLA in the Green Fields Colony case, the police began searching for him.
The police made a vain bid to contact him over phone and this was not possible as all his mobiles were switched off while there was no answer from the land line. Then, they went to his residence in Musheerabad area of Hyderabad city where the policemen were told that the former minister had gone on a pilgrimage to Maharashtra.
His brother, Dayanand, who also is allegedly involved in the scam, too was not available in the city. “Both the leaders have gone underground and we do not when we can trace them. However, we filed cases with the local police stations,” the police clarified.
The AP High Court earlier in the day vacated the stay granted on the arrest of Shankar Rao when the ‘victims’ of the Green Fields Colony in Secunderabad moved the court alleging that the former minister had grabbed large tracts of land in the colony.
