Rohith Vemula’s mother: Why dig into details about my caste?

Hyderabad: Slamming the reports of belonging to the Vaddera (OBC) community, Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika said that she comes from a dalit family and was married to a man who belonged to the Vaddera community. Radhika also said that her children were raised as dalits as she divorced her husband after her third child was born.

On the other hand Rohit’s brother, Raja Chaitanya said that they have a certificate to prove that they belong to the scheduled caste. “We are estranged from our father and have nothing to do with him. We are Dalits. We will respond with proof." Raja Chaitanya also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for responding to suicide five days after the incident.

Meanwhile there is a buzz on social media about Rohith’s caste; many have questioned the reality behind his caste.
