Pitched battle in Old City’s Madannapet

Locals of Dhobhighat in Old City’s Madannapet and realty sharks fought pitched street battle in the Dhobhighat area on Saturday.

The rioters clashed with sticks, pelted stones and hurled soda bottles at each other. Several persons suffered injuries in the incident.

The locals stopped realty agents who wanted to grab a piece of land in the Dhobhi Ghat area. Upset with this, the realty agents attacked them. Though the police rushed to the spot immediately, they couldn’t prevent the warring groups. It was only after the police resorted to lathicharge that the crowd dispersed.
