Old man commits suicide in property dispute

An old man committed suicide owing to property dispute and constant harassment by the police.

The incident occured in Jaggapuram village of Eddlapadu mandal in Guntur district.
According to sources, the victim Tulasi Ramachandraiah bought 20 cents of land from his relatives about 40 years ago. However, he failed to register the land. Descendents of the relatives staked a claim to the land and approached the police. The also influenced the police to strenghten their claim.
Subsequently, Eddlapadu SI Umamaheswara Rao started beating up the old man, demolished his hut and regularly called him to the police station.
Unable to bear the humiliation of constantly being called to the police station, Ramachandraiah consumed pesticide and committed suicide, his neighbours said.
