Medical Report Just a Drama to Get Bail Extended: Seediri Appalaraju

Srikakulam: As the four-week interim bail in skill development scam scam is expiring soon, the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu moved the Andhra Pradesh high court seeking a bail on health conditions. The opposition leader is out on bail from Rajahmundry central prison on medical grounds in the multi-crore skill development scam case. 

The TDP’s legal team submitted a memo to the court stating that the party chief had been diagnosed with an increased risk of heart disease and vitiligo on face and nose. The court has reserved the verdict after hearing the arguments of both sides on Thursday. 

However, doubts were raised on the medical reports of Naidu. Earlier, the state government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy questioned it. Now, YSRCP minister Seediri Appalaraju, who is also a medical doctor, questioned if the TDP leader was suffering from heart ailments then why did he undergo the cataract operation? He called the memo a ploy to avoid getting back to the judicial remand. 

According to Naidu's medical reports, the 73-year-old TDP leader visited the hospital with frequent bouts of heaviness in the chest with associated pain and giddiness, insomnia and other medical conditions like vitiligo on face and nose. In his report, the doctors have concluded that Naidu has been diagnosed with Coronary Artery Diseases (a heart ailment termed as CAD) and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM or hypertrophy of heart muscle). The doctors also recommended that the opposition leader should include an ACLS ambulance with a doctor and technician in his cavalcade. 

The opposition leader has a heart disease and is taking immunomodulators medications for the treatment of vitiligo. Since Naidu is suffering from heart ailments and vitiligo, it is risky to administer anaesthesia for surgery to patients like him. If it was an emergency surgery, the doctors would make Naidu go through a series of investigations and tests before administering him anaesthesia. 

However, this does not seem to be the case as Naidu was admitted for the surgery today and discharged the next day. Seediri Appalaraju said no doctor would attempt surgery on Naidu without going through his medical history and making him undergo a battery of tests.

Recently, Naidu successfully underwent the cataract operation. The TDP leader’s heart calcium (Calcium CT score)  was 916 in 2019 and 1,611 (highest for heart ailment) this year. Any doctor would suggest conventional angiography to the patient whose Calcium CT is this high. The doctors would not go ahead with the surgery with these risk factors. Therefore, it is clear that the medical report is being used to extend the interim bail in the skill development scam case, the YSRCP minister said.
