The situation was tense in Nalgonda town on Tuesday after violence broke out during a religious procession, police said.

A day after violence over a petty incident, some people tried to take out Hanuman Jayanthi procession in violation of prohibitory orders, which led to tension in the town, about 100 km from Hyderabad.
Police stopped the procession and baton charged the mob after it pelted stones and attacked a police out post. A few people were injured in stone pelting. Two buses were also damaged. A mob also attacked a school which was opened despite a shutdown called by some groups to protest Monday's incident.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hyderabad range, Nagi Reddy is camping in the town. He and district Superintendent of Police Navin Gulati have appealed for calm.
Police intensified patrolling and rushed additional forces from Mahabubnagar and other neighboring districts to beef up security in the town.
A police officer said five cases were booked against the miscreants and 50 people were picked up. He said the situation was now peaceful.
State-owned Road Transport Corporation stopped bus services as a precautionary measure. Police also ordered closure of all liquor shops in the town till Thursday.
The trouble started Monday over a minor incident.
A two-wheeler rider allegedly assaulted an auto-rickshaw driver and damaged his vehicle after an accident, in which the child of the two-wheeler rider was injured.
