Man cheats youths with promise of railway jobs, arrested

Hyderabad: The police on Friday arrested a man for duping several youths with promise of jobs with the South Central Railway and collecting altogether Rs 30 lakh from them.

Officers of the commissioners' task force on Friday arrested Mohammad Abdul Rahman alias Akram from Musheerabad area, deputy commissioner of police N Koti Reddy said.
Police also seized 16 fake appointment letters and ID cards of SCR and seven uniforms from his possession. Akram had worked as a plumber with the SCR as a contract employee in 2006-2007. Later he quit the job because of health problems.
In 2007, he was arrested twice for collecting money by promising to get jobs with SCR. He resumed the activity again last year, and collected about Rs 30 lakh from several youths.
He sent fake appointment letters and ID cards of SCR to the candidates by post. He gave them `uniforms', asking them to join SCR office at Secunderabad station or the Railway Training School within a week.
The victims realised that they had been duped only when they reported to the SCR offices. Trimulgherry police station is conducting further inquiry.
