Lorry mows down 3 pilgrims in Chittoor

Three persons died on the spot and three more were grievously injured when a lorry mowed them down near Narayana Vanam, Chittoor district on Tuesday morning.

Six devotees from Chennai have embarked on a padayatra (journey on foot) to Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara. As they reached Narayana Vanam, a speeding lorry mowed them down. Negligent and rash driving of the lorry driver is being blamed for the mishap. The injured persons are being treated at government hospital in Puttur.

The police registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
