Harassed housewife throws twin infants into well, attempts suicide

Kamareddy: Vexed at her husband's illicit affair and behaviour towards her, a housewife from Kamareddy, on Sunday, threw her twin infants into a well and jumped in after them. While the twins did not survive, the neighbours were able to rescue the grievously injured mother.

Rajitha and Bombothula Mahesh Goud had fallen in love and had an inter-caste marriage five years ago in Gurgul village of Kamareddy in Nizamabad district. Rajitha gave birth to a twins, Keerthana and Kaushik, nine months ago.

However Mahesh began an illicit live-in relationship with a woman in Kamareddy. He would visit his wife Rajitha at times, only to harass her.

Vexed with her husbands illicit affair and his continued harassment towards her, Rajitha resorted to an extreme step on Sunday morning. She cast both her infants into the water well in their backyard, before jumping into it herself.

The neighbours rushed immediately and were able to rescue a grievously injured Rajitha and moved her to the hospital. The infants, however, could not be saved.
