Godavari in spate, flood alert in 120 villages

With continuous rains lashing Andhra Pradesh, the water level in Godavari crossed the third warning level of 53 ft at the temple town of Bhadrachalam on Friday afternoon.

Sabari, Taliperu and Kinnerasani of Godavari tributaries are adding more water, rising its level. 1,500 people were shifted to relief centers and officials are planning to get helicopter for rescue operations.

According to reports, as many as 120 villages are submerged and more than hundred villages are on flood alert.
Badrachalam Nitya Annadanam centre was flooded with water following heavy rains. Evacuation of people living in low-lying areas is in progress.

It is learnt that with the heavy rains and floods, the first phase of local body polls is likely to be postponed. The Election Commission will take a call after assessing the situation.
