A woman and her husband were apprehended at Secunderabad for allegedly trying to sell a week-old baby girl, police said today.

Sleuths of Commissioners Task Force apprehended Sahanaz Begum and her husband Md Jahangir yesterday, who lured a woman Minaz Bee of Parbhani district of Maharashtra to sell her child for Rs 1 lakh to the childless couple, they said.

Minaz Bee, who has four children, delivered a girl child on November 8 at her parents house in Parbhani.

As per the oral contract between Minaz Bee and the accused couple, Minaz along with her husband Syed Habeeb came to Hyderabad to hand over their new-born baby to the accused, police said.

However, a police team on receipt of a tip-off apprehended Sahanaz Begum and Md Jahangir. The duo was later handed over to Market Police Station.

The couple from Parabhani who offered to sell their child have not been arrested and would be counselled, police sources said.
