Blast in cracker making unit, many hurt

Several persons were injured, at least one of them seriously, in a blast that took place in a cracker manufacturing unit in Nellore district of Coastal Andhra region this evening.

According to sources, besides the injuries to many, two houses were totally damaged under the impact of the explosion that took place in a sleepy village of Gulagamudi of Venkachalam mandal in Nellore district. The seriously injured is immediately shifted to a nearby hospital but the condition of the person is stated to be very critical.
The reason for the blast was not immediately known but sources said that short circuit might be the cause for the accident. The incident took place in one of the houses that were razed to the ground. The other is a neighboring house. Details are awaited.
