Banking activities in Andhra Pradesh came to a grinding halt following the two-day strike call given by various bank employees' associations across the country protesting against banking sector reforms and outsourcing of non-core activities. The Unions are also opposing the Banking Law (Amendment) bill, which is pending in the Parliament and implementation of the Khandelwal Committee report.

According to the reports, as many as 80,000 employees of various public sector and old generation private banks in the State are participating in the strike. Clearing houses across the State are not functioning. Centralised demonstrations were held in all district headquarters at respective banks
In Visakhapatnam, nearly 12,000 employees of public and private sector and co-operative banks have participated in the strike.
