A call at midnight saves 35 lives! - Sakshi Post

A 2 AM phone call is certainly irritating, not only to the person who receives it, but also to the people around in deep sleep. But, this is one call that turned out to be a life-saver, not just to the person who received it, but also to 35 co-passengers in a speeding Volvo bus.

On Wednesday, as many as 35 passengers aboard a Hyderabad-bound Volvo bus had a miraculous escape from a mobile inferno and a certain death trap. The rear portion of the bus caught fire and began blazing. The fiery death was trying to swoop in on the unsuspecting passengers in deep slumber. This could have been another Palem-like disaster, which charred scores of sleeping passengers.
But, as the fire got ignited and smoke began billowing, Swetha Natarajan, a passenger, got a phone call, that shook her out of her sleep. She saw smoke billowing and fires raging. She darted towards the bus driver and informed him of the lurking death.
The driver immediately brought the bus to a screeching halt and quickly evacuated all the passengers. Moments later, the bus was engulfed by flames and was reduced to ashes.
The gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh belonging to a newlywed couple and few laptops, certificates and all the luggage was burnt to ashes.
But, what could be salvaged was much more important! It was 35 lives - a lot more invaluable and a lot more precious.
The passengers are now thanking the callers, whose call at the ungodly hour, proved to be a god-sent rescuer.
