3 month old baby dies in Rachabanda stampede in Nizamabad

In a tragic incident, a three-month-old baby was killed in a stampede that broke out during a Rachabanda programme in Machareddy Mandal in Nizamabad district.
Moksha, the victim, was a resident of Bhawani Peta and had come to Machareddy to avail Bangaru Thalli card under the CM's Bangaru Thalli scheme. According to this scheme, which was launched by AP CM Kiran Kumar Reddy on May 1, 2013, the family of a girl is supported from her birth till her graduation. And all below the poverty line people are eligible for it.
Moksha along with her parents and others were waiting from 10 am to get the scheme cards. And as soon as the news broke out that the cards were being distributed, a stampede broke out. In the ensuing commotion, the baby fainted after being trampled upon.
She was rushed to the nearby Kama Reddy Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
According to eyewitnesses, it was a badly organised event, with no counters for people to collect the cards from. The cards were being distributed in a haphazard manner which led to the stampede.
