Centre Mulling Appointment Of New Governors?

This is being anticipated as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, known for his strongly opinionated views and functioning, wants to have his imprimatur on the country - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Ever since the BJP stormed into power for the second consecutive term, speculation is rife that there could be changes in governors of various states. This is being anticipated as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, known for his strongly opinionated views and functioning, wants to have his imprimatur on the country, particularly the relationship between states and the Centre. Internal security and engagement between the Centre and states fall under the ambit of the Union Home Ministry.

With five states’ governors recently calling on Amit Shah and news of BJP senior leader Sushma Swaraj being appointed as Andhra Pradesh governor, which later found out to be fake, there is a sense that there could be changes in the offing.

Most of the current governors to different states have been serving for over four years. They have been appointed at the beginning of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term in 2014. Despite the criticism, the gubernatorial posts have been always seen as an arrangement that could help the political party in power to accommodate its senior and not-so politically active leaders.

Currently, Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel is serving as an in-charge Governor of Chattisgarh. ESL Narsimhan has been the Governor of Telugu states for last 10 years. Word has it that Anil Baijal could be moved to Prime Minister’s Office. However, nothing concrete has emerged so far. After Tuesday’s fake news about Sushma Swaraj being appointed as AP governor, the Home Ministry appears to be treading on cautious path and to keep the news secret until the last moment.

Recently, ESL Narsimhan and West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Arunachal Pradesh Governors met Amit Shah after he took charge as Home Minister.
