Raghurama Krishnam Raju To Be Examined At Secunderabad Army Hospital: Supreme Court

Raghurama Krishnam Raju case: Supreme Court orders to conduct tests at Secunderabad Army hospital - Sakshi Post

NEW DELHI: YSRCP rebel MP K Raghurama Krishnam Raju who is fighting tooth and nail to avoid jail, moved the Supreme Court for bail against the Andhra Pradesh High Court orders which refused to grant him bail after he was arrested on Sedition charges by the AP CID on Friday.

The Court on Monday while hearing his special leave petition allowed the medical examination of the MP to be conducted at the Army Hospital at Secunderabad in Telangana and stated that the expenses of the treatment must be borne by the MP himself.

A division bench of the SC comprising Justice Vineet Saran and Justice BR Gavai while passing the orders directed the officials to take him to the Army Hospital, Secunderabad, for examination and the same would be treated as judicial custody. A judicial officer who will be with the petitioner during the examination should be nominated by the Telangana High Court, it said in its order.

CID lawyer Dushyant Dave told the Supreme Court that the allegations made by the Narsapuram MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju that he was beaten in custody were false. He said he was ready for a medical examination in the presence of a senior judicial officer. To this, the division bench asked if there were any Army hospitals nearby The counsel informed that the Secunderabad Army Hospital was at the nearest distance of 300 Kms and the Navy Hospital at Visakhapatnam was 300 km away. Lawyer Dave explained that there were heavy rains in Visakhapatnam right now to which the bench chose the Secunderabad Army Hospital.

The bench also directed the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Registrar General of the Telangana High Court to carry out its orders. The MP's examination has to be videographed and the medical reports should be submitted to the court in a sealed cover, it said and posted the matter for further hearing to May 21.
