GHMC vandalizes Mahatma Statue on his birth anniversary - Sakshi Post

Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, on Wednesday witnessed a untoward incident of demolition of the statue of Mahatma by uncouth authorities of GHMC at Raju Colony of Bala Nagar in Hyderabad. With the blatant act of authorities, which was an affront to the Father of Nation, major altercation took place at the place during the operation.

The officials with the help of crane removed the statue stating that the residents have not taken permission from them. As tension cropped up, the residents have staged a dharna holding pieces of the statue protesting against the highhandedness of the GHMC officials.
“Even if the statue was erected without permission of the officials, they should not be so blatant to hurt the sentiments of the public. They should not as mechanical as the crane, they should maintain the sanctity of the statue,” a local resident, who  joined the public protest against the GHMC officials, told Sakshipost.
However, the enraged residents averred that they did take the permission of the authorities. They also allege that the police, accompanied the demolition squad of GHMC, resorted to mild lathicharge. The unruly behavior of the GHMC officials drew flak and snowballed into a big controversy.
