Telangana to Put Six New Domestic Airports On Fast-track

 - Sakshi Post

The establishment of six domestic airports in Telangana is likely to get at a fast pace from next week after the crucial meeting between Telangana government officials and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). In the meeting, they will be discussing the nitty-gritties of the proposals, ways and means to resolve certain issues as also clearances required for the proposed airports.

It is observed that the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey, soil testing and other inspections were completed at the proposed domestic airport sites in the State. The AAI has submitted the techno-economic feasibility report to the government.

Telangana has only one operational airport in Shamshabad for commercial air operations. However, the Begumpet Airport is being used for emergency purposes and VIP flights. After the AAI survey at the field level, it is anticipated that the hand-holding of the Central agency would be completing the construction at the earliest.

An official said that they have already requested the Union government to allow the operation of mini aircraft with a seating capacity of 18-20 persons at these proposed airports where it would not be feasible for landing or take-off of bigger aircraft.

Out of the six airports proposed, as per AAI reports, Mamnoor in Warangal district, Adilabad and Jakranpally in Nizamabad district are ideal for the full-fledged airport. The remaining Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, Basantnagar in Peddapalli district and Devarkadra in Mahabubnagar district are not suitable for the full-fledged airport.
