National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Questions Police Over Delay in Filing FIR

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy to submit a detailed report within two days in connection with the alleged gangrape of a teenage girl in am Innova car in Jubilee Hills area of the city on May 28. 

A communique from Raj Bhavan said the Governor was deeply anguished over this heinous incident. It further said Soundararajan had seen the media reports covering the alleged rape of a minor girl. 

One more person, a juvenile is arrested by the police in the Hyderabad teen rape case on Sunday. So far four accused including three juveniles have been apprehended by the police while the efforts are on to nab the fifth suspect. 

On Friday, the police arrested Saduddin Malik (18), a resident of Puppalaguda in Manikonda, while two juveniles were apprehended on Saturday. The two juveniles were produced before a Juvenile Court for their safe custody on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also sought an explanation from the Hyderabad police over the delay in the registration of an FIR in connection with the gangrape case. 

While Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar has written an open letter to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao demanding a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Hyderabad gang-rape of a minor girl. He has also demanded that all the accused involved should be arrested forthwith. 

The victim was allegedly gang-raped when she was returning home after attending a party in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad on May 28. The police have identified the five culprits after analysing the CCTV footage and the statement of the victim.

In the CCTV footage which is going viral on social media, the girl is shown standing with the suspects outside the pub where she had met them. It is said the accused had offered to drop her home. However, they took her to an isolated place in a posh locality and she was sexually assaulted inside the parked car. The attackers took turns raping her while others stood outside the car guarding the attacker.
