BC Leader Krishnaiah Bats for Specific Reservations for BC Women in Legislature

Hyderabad: Emphasising the importance of fair representation of women in the participatory democracy, the National BC Welfare Association president and MP R Krishnaiah on Monday demanded the introduction of a Women's Bill in Parliament. He highlighted the need for political empowerment of BC women and urged the government to provide specific reservations for the women from backward class communities. 

Krishnaiah made these demands while presiding the BC women meeting as a chief guest here on Monday. He said the Upper House has already given it’s approval to the Women's Bill and requested the Lok Sabha to pass this bill so it can become a legislation. 

He further added that the BC women constitute a significant portion of the population and therefore, and also proposed a 50 percent quota for education and employment opportunities should be introduced for them. He also highlighted the challenges being faced by the BC women and called for enacting additional laws similar to Dowry Prohibition Act, Rape Prevention Act, Nirbhaya Act, Child Marriage Prevention Act, and Disha Act to safeguard women's rights.
