AP Makes Progress In Education Ministry’s Performance Grading Index 2019-20

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal stated that nineteen States and UTs have shown improvement by 10% (36 points) or more in the School Education Performance Grading Index (PGI) for 2019–20.

Out of these Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, Rajasthan & West Bengal showed an improvement by at least 20%.

Andhra Pradesh has made progress in the process of school education grading and governance which was improved at  20%  when compared to the year 2018–19.

The School Education Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019–20 report for States and Union Territories prepared by the Central Department of Education, School of Education, Literacy was released on Sunday.

The Centre has introduced the Performance Grading‌ Index with 70 items to bring about transformation in school education.

PGI was first published in 2018–19 based on the year 2017–18 in the States and Union Territories. The Centre has now approved the 2019–20 report.

Andhra Pradesh improved by over 72 points and Telangana by 15 points. Overall, Andhra Pradesh achieved 4th level grade-1 (801–850 points) and Telangana 5th level grade-2 (751–800 points). Learning Outcome in Category-1 Domain-1, Andhra Pradesh scored 154 and Telangana 142 points for 180 points in quality. Rajasthan is leading with 168 points. In the category-1 domain-2, in the access section, Andhra Pradesh scored 65 points and Telangana 69 points. Kerala topped the list with 79 points.

In the infrastructure and facilities category, Andhra Pradesh scored 117 points and Telangana 113 points for 150 points. Punjab is leading with 150 points.

In the equity category, Andhra Pradesh scored 204 points and Telangana 210 points for 230 points. Punjab topped the list with 228 points.

Andhra Pradesh scored 271 and Telangana 238 out of 360 points in the governance process. Punjab is in first place with 346 points.

 No state or union territory has achieved Level 1 (951–1000 points) since the introduction of PGI in 2017–18.
