Child Slaves Working As Bonded Labourers At Bangle Unit Rescued in Shaheen Nagar

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police rescued at least 54 children from five different bangle manufacturing units in Shaheen Nagar here in the wee hours of Saturday.

The children, in the age group of nine to 14 years were found who worked as bonded labourers in the units, according to a leading daily.

They were paid Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 a month and were made to work for over 18 hours in a day.

"The children were made to work for over 18 hours a day and made to stay in a room. The rescue operation was conducted around 2 am on Saturday. Of the rescued victims, 40 were below 14 years of age,” Balapur inspector V Saidulu was quoted saying by the leading daily.

Five accused are absconding.
