November 5 Stock Market Holiday for Guru Nanak Jayanti!

It will be a holiday on Wednesday, November 5, as a result of Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Parv. The NSE and BSE will remain closed.

The wholesale commodity markets will also remain shut for the day. All market segments - equity, derivatives, currency derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, and electronic gold receipts - will remain closed for the day. The closure marks the only trading holiday in November 2025, according to the official holiday list released by the exchanges earlier this year. With the midweek holiday, markets will function for four trading sessions during the week.

Remaining Stock Market Holidays in 2025

The Indian stock exchanges have in total 14 holidays this year, according to the 2025 trading calendar. After November 5, only one trading holiday is remaining:

December 25 (Thursday): Christmas

Except for these, the exchanges will remain closed during Saturdays and Sundays, as per the usual weekly schedule.

Regular Market Timings

Trading in the equities segment takes place on all weekdays, except weekends and exchange-declared holidays. Regular trading hours are from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a pre-opening session from 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

The detailed daily schedule is as follows:

Pre-Open Session:

Order Entry & Modification: 9:00 a.m. – 9:08 a.m.

Regular Trading Session:

Market Open: 9:15 a.m.

Market Close: 3:30 p.m.

Applicable to both Normal and Limited Physical Market.

Closing Session:

3:40 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Block Deal Sessions:

Morning Window: 8:45 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Afternoon Window: 2:05 p.m. – 2:20 p.m. 

Flexibility in Trading Schedule

Both NSE and BSE retain the discretion to modify trading hours or declare unscheduled holidays if necessary. The exchanges may choose to close or open markets on days not originally included in the annual holiday list, depending on special events, administrative needs, or unforeseen circumstances. Such decisions are made to maintain smooth, fair, and orderly trading operations.

With trading paused for Guru Nanak Jayanti, investors can look forward to the markets reopening on Thursday, November 6, for regular operations.
