A noted Carnatic and Hindustani vocalist Jayaraj Narayanan from Kerala died in a road accident in Chicago, United States.As per reports, Jayaraj was performing concerts across the US. Further details are awaited.

Jayaraj made a mark with classical, devotional, and popular songs. He had sung in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam in his brief career. He graduated from Sri Uthradam Thirunal RLV College of Music, Tripunithura and studied Carnatic vocal music for more than 14 years and was the recipient of several awards at a young age.

He had sung in All-India Radio programmes in Kerala and came to the limelight after winning the 1st Asianet Voice of the Week music competition in 1996. Jayaraj has performed in many major cities around the world. 
His wife Maya and children Meghna and Gauri survive him. His parents are Narayanan Kutty and Shantakumari of Jayalayam House at Eroor, a Kochi suburb.
