Andhra Pradesh Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and High Winds to Impact Coastal Districts from December 18

A depression has developed in the South-West Bay of Bengal and is expected to affect the coastal and Rayalaseema areas significantly. Already, the sea conditions have turned rough, and light rainfall is being observed along the Visakhapatnam coast. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted to hit the city and surrounding coastal regions starting tomorrow.
Cold weather is expected to worsen, with light showers impacting Visakhapatnam as the depression brings predictions of continuous rain over the next four days. The department also issued a warning of strong winds, with speeds ranging from 35-45 km/h, along the coast. The heavy rainfall is expected to persist across the coastal areas and Rayalaseema for the following three days.
The Visakhapatnam Meteorological Centre has advised fishermen on the South Coast to refrain from venturing into the sea due to the dangerous conditions. Heavy rainfall has already started in regions such as Nellore, Tirupati, Kakinada, Anakapalli, and Visakhapatnam.
The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for Nellore, Tirupati, Kakinada, Anakapalli, and Visakhapatnam, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall tomorrow. Additionally, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Vijayanagaram districts, with forecasts for heavy rainfall tomorrow.
