LS Polls 2024: Race for Khammam Lok Sabha Seat Heats Up as Dy CM’s Wife Seeks Nomination

 - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress has received a total of 306 applications from aspiring candidates for 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The party had set Saturday, February 3 as the deadline for receiving applications. There is an intense competition for the Khammam seat among other parliamentary constituencies.

On the last day today, Nandini Mallu, wife of deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, submitted her application seeking a nomination from Khammam Lok Sabha seat. She took out a huge car rally with Congress workers from Khammam to Hyderabad to express her interest in contesting the upcoming general elections. Notably, Khammam is the bastion of Congress and there is a stiff competition for the ticket.

Former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury is also a strong contender for the seat. She has  earlier stated that if Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chief Sonia Gandhi does not show her interest in contesting from Khammam seat then she would be the party’s candidate from this parliamentary constituency.

Besides her, former MP V Hanumantha Rao, minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s brother Ponguleti Prasad Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao’s son Tummala Yogender are also vying for the ticket. It may be noted here that Sonia Gandhi has not taken a decision on contesting the general elections from this parliamentary constituency and yet we see many Congress heavyweights are hankering for it.
