4 More Osmania PG Medical Students Test COVID-19 Positive

HYDERABAD: Four students of Osmania Medical College tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total number of students who contracted the virus to 12. Of the 12 students, seven are women and they were all shifted to Gandhi Hospital.

It all started with a positive case reported on May 30 among the OMC students when a woman student from the gynecology department tested positive for coronavirus. Immediately, samples of 107 students were collected and sent for tests.

It is learnt that the students who were infected with the virus used to study in the same reading rooms. There are more than 400 PG students in the medical college.

Reacting on this, Shashikala, Principal of Osmania Medical College, told reporters that the entire college has been sanitized and also COVID-19 tests were carried out on all the students in the college. 

It is reported that the 12 students, who contracted the dreaded virus, have been working in different departments at 10 city hospitals that are affiliated to the medical college. Following this, other students have become panicky as the fear of further spread looms large.

Telangana registered 94 new cases on Monday taking the tally to 2,792 even as six fatalities due to the virus were reported in the state. With this, the death COVID-19 death toll rose to 88.

Of the cases reported on Monday, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported the highest number at 79. In Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts, three cases were reported respectively while in Nalgonda, Medak and Sangareddy, two cases were reported respectively.
