India COVID-19 Update June 6: With 9,887 New Cases, India Now Sixth-Worst Affected Country

NEW DELHI: With 9,887 new cases, India recorded the highest single-day spikes so far taking the country's tally to 2,36,657, according to the union health ministry's update on Saturday morning. India is now the sixth-worst affected country in the world overtaking Italy, according to John Hopkins university data tracker.

The death toll stood at 6,642, with 294 deaths reported in last 24 hours.

There are 1,15,942 active cases in the country, while 1,14,073 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals.

A total of 4,982 people have been discharged in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra state continues to remain the worst-affected state with 80,229 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (28,694), Delhi (26,334), Gujarat (19,904), Rajasthan (10,084).

In Telangana there are 3,290 cases, with 143 cases reported in the last 24 hours, and in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh there are 4,303 cases with 80 new cases, according to the union ministry's update till 8 am Saturday.
