YS Jagan Underscores The Importance Of Vocal Opposition In Assembly

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy speaking at a training programme organised for legislators in the Assembly Hall in Amaravati On Wednesday   - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that their government would allow Opposition to air its views without obstructing them as it would enhance the prestige of the State Legislative Assembly.

YS Jagan reiterated that their government in contrast to the past TDP government would show a marked difference in its conduct both inside and outside Assembly. "It is good to have an Opposition. If someone wants to talk from the Opposition, let them talk. We will hear them out. Only then we will defend or present our case with more reasoning and logic," he added.

The Chief Minister was speaking at an orientation programme organised by the Assembly Secretariat for elected MLAs and MLCs in the Assembly Hall here on Wednesday. The two-day training programme, kiked off on Wednesday, was mostly attended by ruling party legislators most of whom were first time MLAs.

Stating that attendance of legislators to Assembly should be non-negotiable, he requested each one of them to come prepared for the discussion as it would help them to make an effective and good presentation. He exhorted them to speak only facts and not to mislead the House.

Taking a dig at Chandrababu Naidu, he recalled an incident when the former had brought a fictitious document to the Assembly as the Leader of Opposition and read it out aloud when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister.

"When the authenticity of the document was pointed out by YSR, Chandrababu Naidu had audacity to say that it doesn't matter if it is a lie and fabricated as it's only in such cases you people will tell the truth," he said as the hall erupted in laughter.

As regards his preparation as an Opposition leader for Assembly sessions would start at 4 AM in the morning with subject experts and all necessary material in place. "No matter how good speaker you are, you are bound to fail in the Assembly provided you don't come with preparation and know your subject," he told the legislators.

He requested every legislator to get acquainted with the rules of the Assembly and not to expect Speaker to allow them to speak just because they belonged to the ruling party.

Speaker Tammineni Sitaram, Legislative Affairs Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and others were present on the occasion.
