ChatGPT Go Free for Indians: Everything You Need to Know Before Claiming Offer
OpenAI continues to place big bets on India as it launches a free one-year plan for ChatGPT Go, starting November 4, 2025.
The announcement was made ahead of the company’s first‑ever India developer event, DevDay Exchange, held in Bengaluru.
What’s included in the offer?
ChatGPT Go was originally launched in India in August 2025 at ₹399 per month and is designed as an affordable upgrade from the free tier. The free‑for‑12‑months plan grants access to OpenAI’s flagship model GPT‑5, higher message limits, more daily image generations, larger file uploads, extended memory and custom GPT‑creation tools.
Who is eligible?
Any user physically located in India who signs up during the limited‑time promotion. Those who initially subscribed through ChatGPT’s website or Google Play store should not cancel subscriptions. OpenAI will automatically extend their billing date by 12 months within the coming week.
Users on higher tiers (e.g., ChatGPT Plus, Business or Enterprise) would need to cancel their current plan and complete the billing cycle before switching to Go.
Why this matters
OpenAI says the move reflects the company’s recognition of India as one of its fastest‑growing markets and its enthusiasm for the “creativity” of Indian users. The promotion also comes amid elevated competition in India for AI‑tool adoption — with rivals offering free premium features to capture the market.
Important caveats
While the year’s access is free, winning the offer may require a payment method (credit card, debit card or UPI) to be added to your account — and billing will resume automatically unless cancelled after the promotion.
