Hyderabad: In order to keep the campus environment friendly, Univeristy Of Hyderabad launched electric auto rickshaw facility in the campus from Friday, December 13.

According to reports, the university has presently introduced two e-auto rickshaws which can seat four persons at once and charge a flat rate of Rs 10 per commute, to be paid through the Paytm e-wallet app.

Reports also said that the service is being run by a Bengaluru-based private company, Transvahan Technologies India Private Limited, on an ‘Own, Operate and Maintain’ basis.

As per press release by the university, the current routes covered by the two vehicles link major buildings, departments, hostels, library and the service runs between 8 am to 6 pm.

University of Hyderabad is a large campus with immense bio-diversity and is also a home a flora and fauna. Over 75 varieties of bird, lakes, large green covers and rock formations which give the campus a natural beauty.

The main aim to start the e-auto service is to preserve the natural habitat in the campus premises and to keep the pollution free, the university has taken a step towards greener campus.

However, the move has triggered anger among the student community raising a point that instead of providing free and frequent transport facilities to students, the administration has chosen to utilise the services of a private agency and put the burden of payment on the students.
