YS Jagan Conducts Aerial Survey Of Devipatnam Boat Tragedy Site

East Godavari: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted an aerial survey of the area at Katchuluru in Devipatnam, on Monday morning, where a private boat carrying around 61 tourists and a crew of 10 members, capsized in the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh.HomeMinister M Sucharitha also accompanied him in the survey.

Ministers Anil Kumar Yadav, Avanthi Srinivas and Kurasala Kannababu reached the site on Sunday and are overseeing rescue operations along with district officials.

He is slated to visit the Government Hospital in Rajahmundry where the survivors were undergoing treatment and meet them and their relatives.

After meeting them YS Jagan will be conducting another review meeting with officials to discuss various issues related to the boat accident and further course of action.

As per latest reports at least 12 people were confirmed dead and over 32 people are still missing in the accident that occurred in the afternoon on Sunday. A tourist boat ‘Vashista’ was headed to a tourist destination in the Godavari river, which was already in a spate for the past few days. It is reported that the boat, had no permission to operate from the government, began the trip from Singanapalli Revu in Devipatnam mandal. Most of the tourists who survived were wearing life jackets, locals said.

Rescue operations are on at brisk pace to locate the missing persons. Navy helicopters, boats are also assisting in the search operations to locate them.Two Navy helicopters from Indian Naval Station Dega have joined the search operations to trace those missing in a boat accident in Godavari river.
