Nellore: The Public Health Department officials in Nellore district headquarters seized rotten chicken from various meat shops during a surprise raid on August 26th. As per officials, the chicken sellers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka state are transporting rotten chicken from Chennai and Coimbatore to Ongole, Nellore, Guntur, and Vijayawada. It is identified that 8 tons of rotten chicken are transported to Andhra Pradesh from Tamil Nadu and are being sold to Bars, Restaurants and chicken pakodi shops.

Local chicken shopkeepers are selling the rotten chicken which is almost 3 to 4 days old by mixing it with a batch of fresh chicken. They are cashing it by selling it for Rs 120 to Rs 180 in AP state. It is learned that three major chicken shop owners are involved in this transportation.

Government officials seized the shops and issued a notice to them.

Doctors advise that it is unsafe to consume chicken that is frozen for more than three hours and asked customers to be aware.
