Policeman Slaps Junior Doctor Protesting Against NMC Bill; Video Goes Viral

Vijayawada: The protests by junior doctors over the contentious National Medical Commission Bill took a murkier turn on Wednesday in Vijayawada when a protesting doctor was slapped by a senior police official. A video of the incident is currently going viral.

As protestors were raising slogans against the proposed Bill outside NTR Health University in Vijayawada, a heated argument broke out between a medico and DCP Harshavardhan. The police official singled out the medico in question and pulled him out before slapping him hard. The ugly demonstration of police high handedness further enraged the protestors gathered there.

The protesting students approached DGP Gautam Sawang to lodge a complaint against the policeman concerned. Assuring them of justice, Sawang sought a report from City Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on the incident and ordered a probe.
