Cofferdam Is Partially Complete: Polavaram Project CEO Rajendra Kumar Jain

Vijayawada: Polavaram Project Authority CEO Rajendra Kumar Jain said that Polavaram project would take another three years to complete. As on today, the coffer dam is only partially complete.
Speaking to press persons after holding discussions with Project Authority members, he said they were expecting an inflow of 10,000 cusecs' flood water and arrangements were made to ensure that it would not cause any damage to the cofferdam in the event of floods. He said the Project Authority would impress upon the State government to expedite the works even before torrential rains and flooding would begin.
As regards the funds from the Centre for the project, he said the Union government had so far released Rs 6,700 crore, and the State government was yet to complete some formalities to receive additional funds.
The Centre had already carried out an audit exercise for the funds released since 2014. However, the audit for Rs 1,300 crore for Relief and Rehabilitation package is underway. The Union government is still examining the revised estimates sent by the State government recently for project, he added.
