No matter how many movies are churned out by the Telugu Film Industry (TFI), the evergreen classics of the black and white era are something we can always go back and watch. And what better to see then the movies which starred the late NT Rama Rao (NTR) and Akkineni Nageshwara Rao (ANR). The doyens of the TFI, these two stalwarts had worked in many films , which are cult classics now.

Moreover, another interesting fact was that they both had acted in more than 14 films together, which made it a delight to watch these titans competing on-screen.

Curating the top eight films of these stalwarts, which you can watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon or probably during the family-time movie watching session.

Palleturi Pilla (1950): A folklore film which was also their first film together was released in 1950. Directed and produced B. A. Subba Rao the film stars Anjali Devi, ANR, and NTR in the lead roles. May not really excite the younger generation, but it's nice to watch as its their first film. Spoiler alert: ANR plays the sacrificial hero who gives up the heroine and his life in the movie...

Missamma(1955): This is a true cult classic where NTR, Savitri, ANR & Jamuna acted together in this multi starrer,which was directed the doyen L V Prasad. A romantic comedy, the story still holds appeal to the audience as it talks about inter-religious marriage which is shown in a very subtle way. It was remade in Tamil and Hindi because of its pan India appeal.

Tenali Rama Krishna(1956): Produced and directed by B. S. Ranga, the film had ANR playing the lead role of Tenali and NTR played the King, Srikrishnadevaraya , along with stars like Chittor V. Nagaiah, Bhanumathi Ramakrishna and Jamuna in key roles.

Mayaa Bazaar(1957): Directed by K Venkat Reddy,this epic classic needs no introduction and was also released in the colour version. Though one could say Mahanati Savithri steals the show in this film as Sasirekha , NTR as Sri Krishna and ANR as Abhimanyu were equally delightful in this mythological movie.

Gundamma Katha(1962): A film which ran to packed theaters, saw both ANR and NTR playing brothers who are out to tame their mother-in-law, played brilliantly by actress Surayakantham. The comedy was directed by K Kameshwara Rao and another interesting fact was that this film was NTRs 100th film and for ANR's it was his 99th film.

Sri Krishna Arjuna Yudham(1963): Produced and directed by KV Reddy the film had NTR as Sri Krishna and ANR as Arjuna who are pitted against each other in this Mahabaharata- based mythological film . B Saroja Devi played the female lead where Arjuna wages a war with Krishna.

Chanakya Chandra Gupta(1977): A historical story, this film had NTR donning the hat of writer/ screenplay, director which was also produced under his home banner. NTR also played the lead role of Chandragupta. He offered the role of Chanakya to his dear friend ANR which also put an end to the alleged rumours of any kind of hostility between them.

Sathyam Shivam (1981): This was a Telugu action film, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao which was also a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan - Shashi Kapoor starrer Suhag.Sridevi and Rati Agnihotri palyed the heroines to the NTR and ANR, who get separated from their parents and are reunited at the end. This was also their last film together ...
