AP, Telangana Heatwave Alert: May 20 to 24
People across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are facing extremely hot weather conditions as temperatures continue to rise sharply in several districts. Weather officials have warned that the ongoing heatwave is likely to continue till May 20, with many areas expected to record dangerous daytime temperatures.
Andhra Pradesh Braces for Extreme Heat
Several districts in Andhra Pradesh are expected to witness temperatures between 45°C and 47°C over the next few days. Officials from the State Disaster Management Authority warned that dry winds and intense sunlight could make conditions unbearable during afternoon hours.
Districts likely to experience severe heat include:
Srikakulam Vizianagaram Parvathipuram Manyam Visakhapatnam Kakinada East Godavari West Godavari Guntur Bapatla Palnadu PrakasamAuthorities said coastal and north Andhra districts are expected to remain the worst affected.
Hundreds of Mandals Under Heatwave Warning
The state has identified around 71 mandals facing severe heatwave conditions, while nearly 277 mandals are expected to remain under heatwave alerts in the coming days.
Regions including Anakapalle, Konaseema and Visakhapatnam are among the most vulnerable areas. Temperatures in Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kurnool and Nandyal may remain around 43°C to 44°C.
Meanwhile, districts such as Anantapur, Kadapa and Annamayya are likely to record temperatures between 41°C and 43°C.
Officials Issue Public Advisory
Health and disaster management officials have advised residents to avoid going outdoors after 10 AM unless necessary. Doctors warned that exposure to extreme heat may increase the risk of:
Heatstroke Dehydration Heat exhaustion Fatigue and dizzinessPeople have been asked to drink plenty of water, wear light-colored cotton clothes and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
Children, senior citizens and individuals with health problems have been urged to take extra precautions.
Thunderstorm Chances in Rayalaseema
Some isolated areas in Rayalaseema may witness light thunderstorms due to changing atmospheric conditions. However, weather experts stated that the rainfall is unlikely to bring major relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Telangana Also Under Severe Heatwave
Heatwave conditions have intensified across Telangana as well, with the India Meteorological Department issuing an orange alert for several districts till May 20.
Many districts are likely to see temperatures ranging between 41°C and 44°C.

Hyderabad is also experiencing uncomfortable weather conditions, with daytime temperatures likely to touch 41°C while nighttime temperatures remain close to 31°C.
The combination of dry heat and humidity has reduced nighttime cooling, causing discomfort even after sunset.
Thunderstorm and Lightning Alerts Issued
Even as temperatures stay high, some districts in Telangana may witness sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds during evening hours.

Heatwave Likely to Continue
Officials said the severe summer conditions are expected to persist for the next few days with very little immediate relief likely across both Telugu states.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak daytime hours.
