Hyderabad: Here are ten quick facts about veteran director Dasari Narayana Rao, who had a unique distinction of having his image on his film posters as prominently and as big as the hero’s photograph.

He is the first director to have his name in a very prominent name along with the hero’s name.Dasari was born on May 5, 1941. He is 75 and is survived by a daughter and two sons.Dasari acted in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films.He directed 151 films, produced 53 films and wrote dialogues for over 250 films. Dasari holds Guinnes Record for most films as a director. He also wrote several plays.He won two national awards, nine Nandi awards and four Filmfare awards. He was conferred honorary doctorate by the Andhra University in 1986.His first film is Tata Manavadu (1972) and his last film is Errabassu (2014).Among his hits are: Sivaranjani, Megha Sandesham, Premabhishekam, Bobbilipuli, Bahudurapu Batasari, Tandra Paparayudu, Sardar Paparayudu, Turpu Padamara, Katakatala Rudraiah, Greeku Veerudu, Lankeswarudu, Osey Ramulamma, Swargam Narakam and several others.He produced and directed three TV serials also.Dasari launched Udayam daily, which was quite a sensation in Telugu media history.He was elected to Rajya Sabha and became Union Minister of State for Coal in Manmohan Singh Government.Tags
