Telangana Medical Course Fee Gets Hiked

Hyderabad: Giving a jolt to the medical aspirants the Telangana government has doubled the tuition fee of PG medical courses and dental courses which will be implemented from this year. Following suit of its counterpart Andhra Pradesh the State government issued a GO on Tuesday night by revising tuition fees.

For medical courses fee under the convener quota (category A) has been increased to Rs6.9 lakh per annum from Rs3.2 lakh. The management quota seats (category B) fee has been steeply increased to Rs24.20 lakh per annum from Rs5.25 lakh. The NRI quota (category-C) have to shell out whopping Rs2.16 crore per annum.

Meanwhile, tuition fee for pre-clinical degree under the convener quota costs Rs3.6 lakh per annum and for a para-clinical degree, a student has shell out Rs6.6 lakh per annum. Students for the dental courses have to cough up Rs5.5 lakh and Rs5.25 lakh for a para-clinical degree.

Coming to the management and NRI quotas, a clinical degree would now cost Rs10 lakh and Rs15 lakh respectively and a para-clinical degree Rs7 lakh and Rs8 lakh respectively.

“There is a demand from private colleges to increase fees. Since common counseling will be conducted for PG medical admissions in AP and TS this year, we need have uniform fees. AP hiked the fees this year, so we would be forced to do the same,” said Telangana medical and health minister C. Laxma Reddy.

However, the fee hike has come as a shock to medical aspirants who rue that despite giving representations the state government didn’t pay heed.

“The fee hike would have major impact on middle class families. How can we afford such a pricey education,” said a distress parent.
