Police High-Handedness On YSRCP Youth Leader Jakkampudi Raja
Ramachandrapuram: Recklessness and high-handedness of the Andhra Pradesh police was on full display on Sunday, when they way-laid, pushed, shoved and thrashed YSRCP Youth Leader Jakkampudi Raja for parking a car.
The incident took place on Sunday in this East Godavari town when sub-inspector K Nagaraju asked Raja to remove his car from the roadside. The latter asked for moment's time as he had his infant in his hands. However, before Raja could move his car, the SI dragged him out of the car and pushed him by holding his shirt collar. He was made to board a waiting police vehicle and was driven to the nearby police station.
On Sunday, Jakkampudi Raja and his wife Rajasri were driving from Draksharamam to Rajahmundry. On the way, they stopped at a jewellery shop close to Ramachandrapuram. She handed their five-month-old daughter to Raja and went into the shop. At that time, SI Nagaraju asked him to move the car.
Several eye witnesses protested the actions of the SI as he did not give time to Raja to shift the infant to her mother. As news of Raja being shifted to the police station spread, YSRCP district president K Kanna Babu, YSRCP central committee member Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi, district youth president Ananth Udayabhaskar and YSRCP senior leader Chellaboina Venu arrived at Ramachandrapuram police station and staged a protest. Later, TDP MLA Thota Trimurthulu also arrived at the police station and tried to broker peace between the police and Raja.
Protests Erupt Across State
Protests erupted across Andhra Pradesh on Monday against police high-handedness on YSRCP youth leader Jakkampudi Raja.
YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a serious view of the incident and strongly condemned the police action. He decried the arrogant behaviour of the police when the youth leader was cradling his five-month-old baby. YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy and senior leader Vasireddy Padma also condemned the incident in strongest possible terms.
On Monday, YSRCP activists staged protests across the state and demanded action against the erring police officials.
