Nirmala Sitaraman's files papers for RS seat

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitaraman on Saturday filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election. 

The vacancy in Rajya Sabha arose following the death of N Janardhana Reddy on May 9. Nirmala Sitaraman has to get elected within six months to remain as a minister in the Union council.

Her election to RS is expected to be a unanimous as the TDP-BJP combine enjoys a comfortable majority in the AP Assembly. 

Her unanimous election would be a matter of prestige for AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The election is slated on July 3.
