Telangana is experiencing severe heatwave conditions as temperatures crossed 46 degrees Celsius in several districts on Wednesday. The extreme heat has reportedly claimed the lives of nine people due to sunstroke-related incidents.

According to reports, six people died due to heatstroke in the combined Karimnagar region. The victims included elderly persons, farmers and a differently-abled man. Additional deaths were reported from Mahabubabad, Mulugu and Narayanpet districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Telangana as temperatures remain 5 to 6 degrees above normal. Officials warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue for the next two days.

People living in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts have been advised to stay alert. Doctors also urged elderly people, children, pregnant women and those with health issues to avoid going outdoors during afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, the intense heat also caused unusual incidents in the state. A motorcycle caught fire while travelling through a forest area in Mancherial district. In another incident, smoke emerged from an RTC bus tyre in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, though a major accident was avoided after the driver acted quickly.

Authorities are asking people to remain indoors as much as possible, drink plenty of water and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak daytime hours.
